This is Sean Avery's 2007-2008 New York Rangers game-worn home blue jersey. It is his set 3 jersey which was worn in a total of 10 games at the end of the regular season and throughout the playoffs. The jersey shows moderate use with two team repairs, extra material sewn inside both elbows for reinforcement and a custom shortened body. One of the eyelets in the neck tie-down has also been pulled out, presumably from a fight. This jersey originated with the MGG-NYR Authentication program and has their COA.

One of the team repairs is quite distinct. It is a large repair, and being that it was done over the added material (which is white) some of this white is visible on the surface through the blue jersey creating a unique design. The jersey is photo matched to at least 6 different pictures matching this large team repair on the right sleeve, the missing eyelet in the neck and marks on the rear hem.

Among the 10 games that Avery wore this jersey was a game in which Avery was involved in one of the most memorable moments in recent New York Rangers history. Avery was wearing this shirt on April 13, 2008 when the Rangers squared off against the New Jersey Devils at Madison Square Garden in New York City for game 3 of their Eastern Conference Quarterfinal playoff series. On a 5-on-3 powerplay Avery was dispatched to the front of the Devils net to screen longtime rival Martin Brodeur. When he got to the net Avery took the unorthodox approach of facing the Devils netminder, with his back to the play, and waving his stick and arms in Brodeur's face to block his view. Seconds later, Scott Gomez fed Avery a pass at the top of the crease and Avery scored the controvertial go-ahead goal. The next day the NHL instituted a rule banning this type of play, later dubbed "The Avery Rule." The Rangers would go on to win the series in 5 games. The jersey is photo matched to this game and, more specifically, this play.
